Directions to Camp Roland:

No matter where in the world you are, get on Interstate 77 "between the tunnels" in beautiful Bland County Virginia. Travel to the BASTIAN exit (EXIT 58). From Exit 58 turn toward downtown Bastian (if coming from the south {Wytheville}turn left at the end of the ramp. If coming from the north {Bluefield/Princeton} turn right at the end of the ramp), passing the Marathon gas station on your left. STOP at the stop sign. When clear, turn left and travel about 100 yards on U.S. Route 52. After 100 yards turn RIGHT on State Route 714. After winding down this road for about 3 miles, look for a RED CABOOSE on your left. Turn left down the gravel driveway just before reaching the caboose. Don't worry about the barking dogs at the little white house at the camp entrance... they've almost all had their shots!

The Klondike Belt Loop of 2012!

February 25, 2012

Camp Roland

Welcome all Scouters!

It’s that time again, time for our yearly Cub Scout Klondike!  This year’s theme is The Klondike Belt Loop.  We will be offering 5 belt loops (Art, Citizenship, Map & Compass, Geography, and Wildlife Conservation) and of course, our Klondike Sled Race!  At the end of the day, Scouts will have a chance to cash in all of the gold nuggets they have earned throughout the day for cool prizes!

Registration begins at 9:00am on Saturday morning.  Flagpole is at 9:40am.  Program ends around 4:00pm at the Flagpole.  The cost of Klondike will be $5.00 per scout or participating youth.  No cost for adults!

Everyone is invited to join us in the dining hall for a pot luck lunch!  We will bring the hot chocolate, fruit punch, crackers, chips, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.  We would like for each pack to bring a Crock-pot full of soup, chili beans, or other type of beans.  Desserts or any other items to make our meal a success would be greatly appreciated!

Please remember that we have no water at Camp Roland in the winter, so all food will need to be prepared ahead of time and in a Crock-pot.  The bathrooms will be closed as well.  We will have port-a-johns instead.

I would also like to remind you that there is no camping at Klondike.  Please dress according to the weather.  Even when the temperature is nice, it is cooler in the woods.  So be prepared!  (Winter coat, hats, gloves, scarves, water proof shoes)  An extra pair of shoes and a change of clothes will make your Klondike experience more pleasant if you get wet!

In order to make our Klondike a success, I need lots of volunteers.  Below is a list of activities that I need your help.  Please contact me as soon as possible to let me where you can volunteer.  Also let me know what food item your pack will be bringing so we can make sure we have plenty!

Hope to see you soon!
